Abbey Mortgages finds Brits taking in more lodgers

Abbey Mortgages conducted a survey which found that the number of Brits renting out a spare room over the last 12 months has tripled.
The research also found that Brits collectively have a potential lodger income of £6.29 billion - the equivalent of 16 million unused rooms.
"If you have a spare room that's gathering dust, its worth considering a lodger and earning £4,716 a year," said Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, director of Alliance & Leicester Mortgages.
Meanwhile, research from the Daily Mail found last month that the average British homeowner is paying £1,788 too much on their mortgage annually.
This is because banks are failing to pass on cuts in borrowing fees that they can afford to offer their customers at the present time, the news provider claimed.
