Confused.com encourages necessary motor insurance claims

Confused.com has told drivers they should consider claiming on their car insurance if they need to, rather than worry too much about the financial implications.

According to the comparison site, people often worry that making a claim will increase their premiums and then decide it is more important to keep their no-claims bonus.

Will Thomas, head of motor insurance at Confused.com, commented that it is always important to assess the financial impact of a claim, but that at times claiming is "unavoidable".

He said: "Although collecting years of no claims is beneficial, this should never deter people from making claims if they need to."

Research by the site showed that 38 per cent of motorists avoid making car insurance claims at all because they are worried about higher premiums.

Earlier this month, Confused.com announced that it would be adding Hughes Insurance, the Northern Irish motor insurance broker, to the list of providers that it compares.
