Post Office Insurance advises against pricey festival kit

Post Office Insurance has warned people that taking expensive gadgets to festivals this summer could be a costly mistake.

Richard Pennant-Jones, head of general insurance at Post Office, claimed that the modern festival-goer will take a digital camera and an mp3 player to events and that this increases the risk of thefts.

He recommended taking old equipment and leaving more expensive items at home, but also suggested checking to see if you would be covered by your home insurance policy if anything were lost or stolen.

"It is easy for people to get caught up in the fun of the festival, which is why they need to try and protect their belongings," he said.

Research by the Post Office showed that 39 per cent of adults in the UK have been to a festival this summer or are planning to go to one.

According to figures released by Callcredit Check, 28 per cent of people are worried about being a victim of financial crime when they go to a festival.
