Aviva Back-Up health insurance product extended

Aviva's Back-Up private health insurance has been extended and can now be taken out by its individual and small group customers.

The service, which specialises in back and neck problems, was previously only available to Aviva staff and corporate customers.

Mark Sharpe, clinical development manager at Aviva's UK Health business, stated that these musculoskeletal conditions are often the cause of insurance claims and felt Back-Up takes a more sensible approach to the issue.

He said: "Evidence now shows that tailoring treatment plans to the individual's personal needs, has a far better outcome for all parties."

This, according to Mr Sharpe, is because they do not simply offer a standard length course of physiotherapy.

Instead they look into the customer's individual circumstances, which can mean a quicker recovery for the individual.

Aviva announced last week that it had launched a product, called MyHealthCounts, which encourages customers to improve their own wellbeing to reduce insurance costs.
