Neigbbours have pet hates, says esure

Dogs belonging to neighbours are a source of grief for barking during the night and destroying other people's property, according to esure pet insurance.

Research by the insurance provider showed that 37 per cent of the population had been kept up at night by a neighbour's dog and 11 per cent claimed a dog had been responsible for destroying possessions such as toys or bits of their garden.

Mike Pickard, head of esure pet insurance, commented that it is essential that pets are well trained as their behaviour can be a source of tension between neighbours.

He said: "Unruly pets can turn a peaceful neighbourhood into a battleground and a garden fence into the frontline."

The survey also revealed that 18 per cent of people had fallen out with a neighbour after a row involving their pets.

M&S Money Pet Insurance recently warned dog owners about letting their canines swim in stagnant or salty ponds, as they can become ill due to the toxins caused by algae.
