Barclays Wealth Regular Income Bond extended to six years

Barclays Wealth has extended its five-year Regular Income Bond to a six-year term this week.

The FTSE-100 linked product offers seven per cent interest annually unless the stock market falls by more than 50 per cent at any point during the term, in which case the amount invested will be reduced in line with the index.

Lisa Chaudhuri, a manager at Barclays Wealth, pointed to low savings rates and poor dividend payouts as good reasons to invest in the bond if they want a better rate of income.

She said: "[It] is designed for those who are prepared to accept a risk to their capital in return for a rate of return 6.5 per cent above the current base rate."

Investors can also choose to receive their income from the bond on a monthly basis at 0.57 per cent interest.

Barclays Wealth reported earlier this month that 61 per cent of investors are confident that conditions in the stock market are improving and will carry on doing so.
