UK public 'unaware of pensions law change'

People are not aware of the issues that will arise when the law regarding pensions changes in 2010, a financial expert suggested.

The minimum retirement age is changing from 50 to 55 from April next year and Keith Churchouse, director of Churchouse Financial Planning, believes that not everyone knows about it.

His view is that the UK public tend to stop listening when they hear anything about pensions because of all the bad news that they have heard about the topic over the last ten or 15 years, but this has now become a problem.

"Some of these important issues that they really ought to be thinking about have slipped under the radar. That's not good news," he says.

Mr Churchouse recommends that the least people should do is do some research on the law change to raise their awareness of how it affects them.

Research by Aon Consulting indicates that only a quarter of workers in the UK are aware that the law will be changing.
