David Elms, chief executive at Unbiased.co.uk, claimed that the fast-changing nature of the sector means that it is important to get expert advice based on your individual situation before committing to a mortgage.
He pointed out that some advisors have limited number of mortgage products that they can offer, which is something he feels customers should be aware of as it could mean they miss out on a deal better suited to them.
"We are encouraged by the sustained increase in the number of people seeking whole of market mortgage advice to ensure they get the best mortgage deal for themselves," he said.
Mr Elms' comments were made after the website announced a one per cent rise in the use of their Find a Mortgage Advisor tool from the first quarter of this year to the second.
Last week, the company revealed that 27 per cent of homeowners are on their lenders' standard variable rate compared with 23 per cent earlier in the year.
