Learn your lessons, says uSwitch

People will have had to change their spending habits due to the recession, but they must also learn their lesson for the future, says uSwitch.

Louise Bond, personal finance expert at the comparison site, explains that she is aware that people will have had to cut their costs, but she says it is important for this money-conscious trend to continue in the future.

She makes the point that we do not know how long the economic downturn will last, so making changes, such as downgrading to a cheaper car or holidaying in the UK, are simply signs of caution.

"We really hope that, if nothing else, consumers will learn one clear lesson from the ongoing recession and that is to manage their finances carefully," she says.

In her view, unemployment levels are still high, so many people will need to make every penny count in order to meet monthly bills.

Ms Bond's comments come following the publication of research from uSwitch which indicates that 78 per cent of consumers will change their financial behaviour because of the current economic climate.
