Steve Sweeney, head of motor insurance at the organisation, made his comments after the price comparison site published data indicating that one in five (20 per cent) of motorists automatically renew their car insurance policy with their existing provider.
He said that by shopping around for a better deal, consumers could find that they are able to make significant savings.
Mr Sweeney also noted that drivers should normally expect their premium to be lower than in previous years if they have not made a claim in the last 12 months or so.
"Even if you think your quote can't be beaten, it only takes a few minutes to make sure you really do have the best value policy to suit your needs," the moneysupermarket.com representative concluded.
Figures released by Tescocompare.com in recent days indicate that 30 per cent of drivers have more than one vehicle parked in their driveways.
