More students working part-time during studies, says Halifax

The number of students working alongside their course has increased from 66 per cent to 73 per cent and 11 per cent of these are working more than 20 hours on average.
Mike Regnier, current account director at Halifax, has claimed that this is because a lot of students were worried that their parents would not give them as much money as they had done previously.
He said: "It's more important than ever that students make every penny count. This includes sensible budgeting and keeping the cost of debt to a minimum."
Research showed that the average number of hours worked was 13.3 hours weekly, although this was slightly higher in Scotland where it was 15.6.
Halifax reported earlier this month that a student's average weekly spend has increased by five per cent from 2008 to 2009.
