AXA Insurance points out school bag costs

AXA Insurance has pointed out that the contents of a child's schoolbag can end up being quite pricey and people should be aware of thieves.

Items such as school instruments can cost thousands of pounds and research by the organisation indicates that nearly 30 per cent of children have lost or broken something in their bag.

Steve Hardy, managing director of AXA Direct, has noted that thieves are becoming more interested in the contents of schoolbags as the electronic gadgets and instruments inside can be valuable.

He said: "We all know children can be expensive, but it's surprising just how much a schoolbag and its contents can add up to."

The research showed that London had the most incidents of theft but also children from the city carry the most valuable contents in their bags.

Direct Line claimed this week that the possessions in an average child's schoolbag can be worth as much as £400.
