Nottingham Building Society says it is evolving

Nottingham Building Society has said that it is evolving to meet its customers' needs by launching a financial planning service.

The organisation made the comments with regards to figures from the Office of National Statistics that it feels shows that the customers they serve in the east midlands are struggling to plan for their future adequately.

Figures released by the firm showed that one in four homeowners had no insurance, while 38 per cent are expecting a state pension to be their sole income when they retire.

Lorraine Giddings, head of branch networks at the Nottingham Building Society, pointed out that communities in the region need to take notice of the financial difficulties that they could come across.

She said: "We're evolving the society so that it continues to meet the needs of existing and new customers - without compromising our reputation."

The building society will now be offering pensions, investments and insurance through its new financial planning venture.

This week, Standard Life advised people that they will need their own savings to add to their pensions if they are going to have a decent income when they retire.
