Following the unveiling of plans this week that put forth the suggestion of fining drivers £100 if they are in possession of an uninsured vehicle, the AA has offered some clarification to motorists on how to stay on the right side of the regulators.
First of all, drivers should renew their insurance upon receiving an alert from their cover provider and need to do this no sooner than four days before the end of their policy.
If they change their address, they should notify their insurer straight away, the AA continues.
Keeping a note of the policy code as well as the contact details for the insurer is also recommended, as these can be shown to police officers as proof of cover, it adds.
Earlier this week, the AA lent its support to the new government proposal that uninsured drivers should be fined and said that it is "unacceptable" that legitimate road users have to pay for the mistakes of others.
