Santander advises people to get into savings habit

Santander has told people that it is never too late to start saving and make their money go further.

Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments at the organisation, made his comments following the news from Abbey Savings that on average people are now putting aside £206 per month.

He noted that it was encouraging to see that people are putting money aside and pointed out that the amount they are saving has gone up by 26 per cent in the past three months.

"It's not too late for those Britons who haven't yet kick started their savings habit to make a start - putting aside even a small amount each month will quickly add up," added Mr Attar-Zadeh.

The same study by Abbey Savings indicated that 40 per cent of the population are not saving any money at all.

Last week, Abbey and Bradford & Bingley, Santander's UK brands, launched a new two-year fixed-rate ISA at 3.5 per cent interest.
