Santander offering "unexpected money" through Abbey prize draw

Santander has given out £24,000 through the Abbey prize draw so far this month, but has pointed out that there is still £12,000 up for grabs.

Customers and non-customers have been invited to take part in the draw, which is giving away £50 every hour during September to raise awareness of the Abbey Student Account.

Gillian Almond, head of current accounts at UK arm of the organisation, stated that there have been 25,500 people involved in the competition so far, which she described as an amazing response.

She said: "This free prize draw is a great opportunity for students and others to get some extra and unexpected money into their back pocket."

Abbey is offering students an interest-free overdraft of up to £2,000 and a £50 joining bonus when they open the account.

Last week, research by the Santander Group showed that many young people now see work experience as just as important as higher education.
