Confused.com champions new E.ON payment method

Confused.com has told customers of E.ON that a change to its payment system will help them control their spending on utility bills.

E.ON has announced that it will send out monthly rather than quarterly bills for cash and cheque customers from now onwards.

Gareth Kloet, head of utilities at Confused.com, pointed out that the system will get people used to paying monthly - and this would benefit them as it would then be a "small step" to making direct debit payments, which he claimed save consumers money.

He added: "Having a greater understanding of the amount of gas and electricity they use can also help people to review whether they are currently on the best tariff."

Mr Kloet commented that the decision to alter the payment method could be seen to be an attempt by the energy company to improve cash flow, but that people should instead look at the positives.

This week, he also pointed out that online tariffs are currently offering the biggest discounts.
