Unbiased.co.uk says do not pay extra tax

Unbiased.co.uk has advised consumers that they are paying extra tax by not taking advantage of their Isa allowance.

This allowance is being raised for over-50s on October 6th, which will allow them to save even more money tax-free.

David Elms, chief executive of Unbiased.co.uk, pointed out that it is more important than ever to get a good return on savings because of the low-interest environment that is currently in place .

The Bank of England base interest rate is still at its lowest-ever rate of 0.5 per cent which impacts the return banks and building societies are willing to offer.

"Consumers should make sure they are using as much of their tax-efficient Isa allowance as possible, in order to avoid unnecessary tax payments," added Mr Elms.

Research by the comparison site indicated that £109 million is being wasted by savers not using Isas as much as they could.
