Bank charge court case 'is almost over'

The court case which will decide whether or not bank charges are excessive is coming to an end, but comments from Gordon Brown will not have much of an effect, according to an industry analyst.

David Kuo, director of the Motley Fool, remarked that - in sport's terms - the banks are losing 4-0 and it is almost the end of the game, so it is fairly clear that they are going to lose.

But, he suggested that calls from the prime minister for a negotiated solution - in a letter to MoneySavingExpert.com - will not have made a difference, because it is too late in the day.

"Gordon Brown could have done something much earlier on, but he has left it until almost the final whistle to say he thinks he knows which side is going to win the game," he explained.

Mr Kuo also commented that the court case will not decide if pervious charges by the bank are legal or illegal, it is only whether the Office of Fair Trading deem them to be unfair or not.
