Uninsured drivers "will get caught"

The Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) has warned uninsured drivers that they "will get caught" if they do not take out a policy.

Keith Morris, chairman of the MIB, made his comments as the organisation launched its Stay Insured campaign, which it hopes will help stop the number of uninsured drivers from exceeding its current level of approximately 1.7 million.

He pointed out that the appeal is targeted at people who may be encountering money troubles and are thinking of not renewing their insurance policy, which he noted can land them in trouble.

Mr Morris added: "Motorists need to understand that they will get caught, they will lose their car, they will be fined, if they choose to drive without insurance."

There were 232,000 prosecutions of uninsured motorists in 2008 according to the MIB.

The organisation also stated that there are nearly 600,000 21 to 29 year-olds who are not covered to drive their vehicles.
