Nationwide: Investors need bond offering extra income

In the current economic climate it is vital for a bond to offer a fixed level of return, according to Nationwide.

Robin Bailey, director of insurance and investments at the organisation, made his comments following the release of the company's Legal & General Portfolio Bond.

He pointed out that many people look for a fixed level of income from investments so that they know how much money they have coming to them, something which is particularly important during retirement.

Mr Bailey added: "In a low interest rate environment, Nationwide is acutely aware of the need to offer a range of investment products that are capable of generating additional income for our investors."

The Legal & General Portfolio Bond allows customers to build up their money in a variety of ways, such as through an Isa or an open-ended investment company.

The Nationwide Savings Index decreased by five points to 77 in August, which the company stated is because the market has not stabilised yet.
