Confused.com offers home safety tips

Confused.com has informed people that they should ensure that their houses are safe from theft, especially with the days getting shorter.

Darren Black, head of home insurance at the website, pointed out that there are usually more burglaries during the winter, so people should do what they can to deter thieves.

He said: "While home insurance will cover homeowners financially, it cannot account for the loss of items with sentimental value."

The company recommended locking away any ladders so as not to give burglars any help getting into the house.

People should also keep valuables out of site and check their windows and doors to make sure that they are secure.

Burglar alarms are a good idea and Confused.com advised installing them in a prominent position to ward off potential criminals.

This week, the company commented that people should be wary of carbon monoxide poisoning and be sure to check their gas appliances for leaks.
