Saga highlights Halloween insurance claims spike

Saga has informed customers that they need to be wary of vandalism over the Halloween period and check that they are covered against it.

Research by the financial services provider showed that there is a 97 per cent increase in claims for vandalism in the week following October 31st.

Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman of the Saga Group, commented that moving garden ornaments out of sight is a good way of reducing the risk of pranksters targeting people's home.

He claimed that it is important to check that people's home insurance covers them against this practice, as replacing broken items can be costly.

"Halloween is one of the worst days of the year for vandalism. For most people it will end without incident, but for a few it may be an expensive night," explained Mr Goodsell.

A recent survey by Saga found that 25 per cent of drivers fear for their safety when they drive in the dark.
