The Co-operative has produced a free guide with advice and support to help consumers make up their minds about what would be the best options of them and their loved ones after they have passed away.

After carrying out research amongst its customers, the insurance provider found that people wanted to be able to get all of their services in one place.

Ian Mackie, managing director of funeral planning, said that the Co-operative was unique in providing will writing, probate and estate administration services and funeral planning services all together.

"As a provider of both funeral and probate and estate administration services, we understand the benefit of having complete plans in place, removing unnecessary worry and upset for those left behind," he added.

The number of funeral plans taken out with the Co-Operative rose by 28 per cent in the first six months of this year, something which the company believes is down to consumers losing faith in savings and investments schemes traditionally used to save for funeral costs.
