Barclaycard offers help to Cumbrian flood victims

Barclaycard has announced that it is taking steps to help people who have been affected by the flooding in Cumbria.

In a statement, the financial services provider explained that many people in the Workington and Cockermouth areas of the county are likely to have problems when it comes to receiving mail and using web-based payment services.

As such, Barclaycard said that any consumers in these areas who tell the firm that they are having problems due to the floods will instantly have any late payment charges refunded.

Commenting, Amer Sajed, chief executive of Barclaycard UK's business and international division, said: "We will take a sympathetic approach to any customer who has been affected and ask them to contact us as soon as they can to discuss how we can."

Earlier this month, the firm launched the UK's first credit card pre-application check to allow people to quickly and easily evaluate their likelihood of being eligible for one of its cards.
