Saga increases insurance cover for December

Saga has announced a special Christmas treat for its insurance customers.

From tomorrow (December 1st), its home insurance contents cover will automatically increase by ten per cent.

Meanwhile, its car insurance personal belongings cover will double to a total of £2,000.

The group noted that more than 70 per cent of people over the age of 50 enjoy Christmas in their own homes - in comparison to 38 per cent of those under 50.

As such, the firm noted that it is keen to ensure that its customers are able to enjoy peace of mind over the festive season, even if thieves strike.

Commenting, Andrew Goodsell, Saga Group executive chairman, said that even though the season of goodwill is almost upon us, some "unscrupulous individuals" still remain.

"We urge people to make sure the gifts they buy over the next few weeks are out of sight of potential thieves, and ensure that home windows and doors are secure," he added.

Recent research by Saga showed that 65 per cent of older people have taken up new hobbies since they gave up full-time work.
