Cancer exclusion premiums reduced by Legal & General

Insurer Legal & General has revealed it is to reduce premiums for those applying for a critical illness policy where cancer cover has been excluded.

Underwriting and claims director for protection Russ Whitworth explained the move is part of an ongoing process of improving Legal & General's critical illness cover.

He added that many people could save a significant amount of money from the premium reduction.

They will also gain peace of mind that they are covered for heart attacks, the risk of stroke and another 32 conditions, Mr Whitworth noted.

Matt Morris, head of media relations for LifeSearch, commented: "Offering premium reductions when a condition as common and serious as cancer is excluded is a very TCF (Treating Customers Fairly) step."

He added that all insurers should provide this service and that it is a shame they do not.

In other health insurance news, a parliamentary bill could overturn an old law that means thousands of insurance claims are currently unfairly rejected each year, the Guardian reports.
