RSA: Protect companies from winter worries

Business owners need to ensure their companies are kept safe from all threats this winter, RSA has reminded consumers.

With the threat of cold weather looming, bosses need to ensure that exposed pipes are properly lagged to prevent them from freezing or bursting. If premises are going to be left vacant over the holidays, draining water services is advisable.

The risk of burglary also rises during the darker days, but simple measures like checking that window and door locks are in good working order and fitting metal bars to exposed windows will help to prevent break-ins.

David Greaves, director of deals and small business at RSA said: "Frozen pipes and crime are just a few of the different obstacles businesses may face as the season turns to winter, but are all completely avoidable with the help of a good insurer."

The company also recently warned that faulty or old heating equipment could significantly add to the cost of fuel bills for businesses in the winter months.
