Investors 'cautious over economic recovery'

Retail investors have become more cautious due to the current economic climate, the TD Waterhouse Investor Confidence Survey has found.

Of those spoken to, 56 per cent did not think that the British economy was out of the worst yet.

However, 37 per cent felt that Britain was having a 'V' shaped recovery, meaning that once the worst of the slump is over, the economy will continue upwards until it reaches its former levels.

Additionally, 53 per cent of investors are now choosing to judge where to put their money based solely on their own instincts.

Chief executive of TD Waterhouse UK Angus Rigby said: "The ongoing global turmoil has obviously given investors food for thought regarding their investment choices this year and it is encouraging to see that investors are still making profits."

In November, the company stated that many of their customers were now choosing to build up their portfolios by investing in property and commodity stocks.
