Nationwide: House prices rise in November

House prices increased in November, figures from Nationwide indicate.

The financial services provider's latest house price index shows that the average value of a property in the UK now stands at £162,764.

This compares to the figure of £162,038, which was recorded in October.

Commenting on the data, Martin Gahbauer, chief economist at Nationwide, said that the average house price is now similar to the levels recorded in the early part of 2006.

He noted that house prices are now starting to rise at a more moderate pace than they were during the spring and summer months, when a "bounce" from the lows of early 2009 was seen.

"The outlook for the housing market remains crucially dependent on labour market conditions and here recent developments have been somewhat more encouraging than might have been expected," Mr Gahbauer concluded.

Last month, Nationwide published research indicating that houses in close proximity to primary schools that perform well are often worth more than those that are not.
