Abbey: 95,000 move house because of neighbours

Up to 95,000 households have moved to a different address in the last two years to get away from their neighbours.

Escaping living next door to someone you do not like was cited as being as major factor in why people choose to find a new home.

However, the main reason for wanting to find a new house was to move further up the property ladder, with more than 217,000 saying this was their biggest influence.

The desire for a larger property was another big influence, with 136,000 homeowners feeling their current property was too small for their needs.

Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, director of Abbey Mortgages, said: "We have seen a 50 per cent increase in the number of people applying for mortgages to buy a new home in recent months compared to the average monthly applications for purchase mortgages for the first half of the year."

The mortgage provider announced it was to cut rates on it products in November, reducing the level of payment on its trackers by 0.3 per cent.
