Over the two-week break from school, this sum can total up to £540 spent each on ensuring children do not get bored.
Of the people questioned, 77 per cent said they spend more money on their kids than they can afford at this time of year.
Top activities to keep children entertained include taking them out for lunch, visiting the cinema and buying new DVDs.
Vanessa Wood, spokesperson for egg, said: "Christmas is the most expensive time of the year for a lot of families but being smart about how you spend money can really help spread the cost of Christmas."
Earlier in the year, egg also found that Halloween is an equally costly event for those with young children. It was found then that parents will spend an average of £15.12 on costumes, sweets and food to help their children celebrate the occasion.
