Tips on how to avoid card fraud this Christmas

Consumers have been offered advice on how best to avoid card fraud this Christmas from CPP.

The service, which provides support to consumers on how to protect themselves from credit card and identity fraud, recommends that customers who intend to make all their purchases using their credit cards should leave all their other forms of payment at home" or something similar would be better.

Additionally, cards should always be kept safe in a purse or wallet, never just inside a pocket.

Sarah Blaney, card fraud expert at CPP, said that shoppers should always check their purchase receipts with their bank statements to make sure that no additional transactions have taken place, which could indicate credit card fraud.

The fraud protection service reported in November that 31 per cent of people surveyed have been the victim of card fraud after their plastic was lost or stolen, with £623 being the average amount taken from fraud victims.
