Protect homes against water damage, advises More Than

Falling temperatures are set to put homes at risk of water damage if homeowers do not take precautions to ensure pipes are properly protected, according to More Than home insurance.

People who are thinking of taking their holidays away this year need to take steps to make sure they do not come home to a damaged property.

More Than advises that simple steps will prevent pipes from freezing, such as leaving the central heating to a minimum of ten degrees. If homeowners plan to be away for a few days then programming the heating to be on for a short time each day will keep the water circulating.

Head of More Than home insurance Annette Lepper said: "To return home and find that pipes have burst will completely ruin a family's festive break. The damage caused can be as bad as that of flooding, fortunately households can take steps to prevent this from happening."

To help homeowners to manage their insurance more effectively, More Than launched a comprehensive package last month. The Premier account holds the consumer's policies together online.
