Shoppers 'chose online over the high street'

More shoppers than ever are choosing to buy their Christmas gifts over the internet than in shops, according to PayPal.

Up to 41 per cent more people living in big cities around the UK now prefer to get their shopping done from the comfort of their own homes compared to last year.

Glasgow has witnessed the biggest increase in the numbers who are buying over the net, with 59 per cent of the city's population admitting to choosing it over a trip into town.

Carl Scheible, managing director of PayPal UK, said: "Almost half of adults living in busy city centers now shop online more than a year ago, a trend which looks set to continue, especially as we love the convenience."

Despite the convenience that comes with shopping online, PayPal recently urged consumer to remember to ensure they keep their credit card details secure in order to avoid the threat of fraud.
