Steve Williams, head of travel insurance at Confused.com, said that the decision by cabin crew to strike over the Christmas period will mean a miserable time for many people who were planning to get away for the holidays.
If rescheduling a holiday is an option, this could be the best course of action as there is no guarantee when flights will be cancelled.
"For those who are affected, comprehensive travel insurance will cover you, so long as the policy was purchased prior to any knowledge of this action happening," he added.
For those travellers who do still manage to get away over Christmas, Confused.com has reminded skiers that drinking before they hit the slopes may mean that they void their insurance policies, which could result in heavy medical bills if they have an accident.
