Direct Line 'covers BA flights'

Direct Line has announced it is to provide travel cover to holidaymakers who have been hit by the announced British Airways (BA) strikes.

Policyholders who took out their cover before December 14th will be covered. According to Direct Line, many insurers have placed a cut-off date on their cover of November 2nd.

A spokesperson for Direct Line Insurance said that anyone who bought their cover before the strikes were announced will be protected if their flights are delayed or cancelled.

As the strikes have not yet begun, holidaymakers will have to wait to see if BA is going to cancel their journey before they can claim on their insurance.

Costs related to travel, such as cancellation fees for car hire or accommodation may also be covered, but it will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

For those planning on staying at home this Christmas, Direct Line has offered advice for avoiding insurance claims during the cold weather, such as insulating pipes and checking loft insulation is in good condition.
