AA: Insurance offers for travellers this winter

The AA has offered advice for travellers who have been affected by the British Airways (BA) strikes and the collapse of airline Flyglobespan.

For holidaymakers who are due to fly with BA, taking out travel insurance now will not cover them for the strikes that have already been announced, as cover is designed only to protect against unforeseen events.

Individuals that have already bought their policies should be covered, but need to check with their providers on what exactly they have been given protection against.

For passengers affected by the Flyglobespan collapse, those who booked through a travel agency will have their flights covered by ATOL or other industry groups. But, those who bought their flights directly from the airline may not be protected.

However, customers who bought their flights from Flyglobespan and have an insurance policy with the AA, which was taken out after July 4th this year, will be protected for the insolvency of their airline.

Tourists who are heading away for winter sports have been reminded by the AA to take out a travel insurance policy that will cover them against injury, as not having adequate cover could result in large medical bills should the worst happen.
