Santander's Zero credit card has won an award at the 2009 Oscards awards, which recognises credit card providers in Europe.

The Zero won the prize for best European credit card in the service category.

Over 500 plastic products were entered for the awards, with 64 being chosen across five categories for the final shortlist, in the ceremony which strives to promote cards as a modern method of payment, as well as recognising innovation within the industry.

Emma Roberts, director of Santander Cards, said: "We have proved that a simple fee-free card really can offer users the high level of service they demand whilst still maintaining the features and quality they expect."

Santander won another award for its cards services in November, when it picked up the honour for best cards providers at the 2009 Personal Finance Awards for the second year running.

In this category, it beat off competition from providers including Lloyds TSB, Virgin and Capital One.
