Reviewing life insurance policies in the new year could find consumers saving themselves hundreds of pounds if they switch to a cheaper deal, according to LifeSearch.

There can be a large difference between the cheapest and most expensive policies on offer, especially if the cost is considered over the duration of a policy.

In addition, individuals who have given up smoking in the last year may see their costs fall as they may find they can switch to a cheaper premium.

Matt Morris, LifeSearch senior policy adviser, said: "It is important to remember that price should not be the only consideration when choosing a financial protection product and customers should look for the policy that offers the best value for money."

LifeSearch also recently offered advice to those looking to take out insurance polices for the first time. While shopping around is important, working out which is the right time of policy is also vital, as well as buying enough cover to protect debts and children.
