How to make the most of January sales

With many retailers waiting to cut the prices of their goods in the new year, the sales can be a good way of bagging a bargain. money.co.uk has compiled a checklist to make sure consumers get the most from their cash.

Making a list of items that they want but cannot afford now at full price will ensure consumers do not buy things they do not need. Setting a budget on how much to spend will ensure that consumers end up actual bargains.

Buying from the sales on a credit or store card can mean that consumers will end up paying back more than the original cost of the item in interest. Shop using saving or a card that can be paid back easily to guarantee that the sales really do provide savings.

Shopping between Christmas and new year means that consumers will beat the increase in VAT on January 1st, when even sales prices will increase by 2.5 per cent.

money.co.uk warned in November that 30 million British adults were heading towards debt in the new year as they are not spreading the cost of their Christmas over the year.
