AA: Stolen cars add to winter claims

The number of cars that are stolen over the festive period has seen the number of claims made this winter increase, according to the AA.

So far this winter the number of claims received by the insurance provider are up 40 per cent due to the bad weather.

However, many drivers who left cars abandoned in the snow are finding they have been damaged or broken into.

Motorists are also warned against turning on their cars' engines and leaving them unattended, as thieves often wait for such situations to occur to steal vehicles, especially expensive ones.

In addition, cars that have been left with their keys in by the driver will not be covered by insurance policies.

The AA has already reported a large increase in the number of claims due to the bad weather, with December 21st seeing over 500 claims, almost twice the average figure for a Monday in winter.
