Consumers 'plan to sell unwanted gifts'

Consumers are planning on turning their unwanted gifts into hard cash this winter, according to uSwitch.com.

Of the people surveyed by the price comparison site, 47 per cent said they planned on selling presents they did not want through online auction sites, with a further 32 per cent planning on getting cash for them at car boot sales.

An additional 41 per cent said that they planned on re-wrapping presents and giving them to someone else.

Louise Bond, personal finance expert at uSwitch.com, said: "This year, people are spending less time dwelling on their disappointment and more time finding new ways of turning their unwanted Christmas presents into cash."

Many people had already planned to make Christmas cheaper this year by cutting back on the amount spent on the festivities, with 56 per cent planning to spend less on presents and 45 per cent buying less food and drink, uSwitch.com found earlier in the month.
