Which?: Easy ways to save in 2010

Consumers can find easy methods of saving money in the new year, which could net them a saving of as much as £1,000 a month, according to Which?.

By changing credit cards to plastic which offers a rate of zero per cent, consumers can save up to £500 a year on a £3,000 debt.

Shopping about for a new energy supplier could save householders as much as £263 a year, according to the consumer advice service.

If a savings account is at less than three per cent and an Isa is 2.5 per cent or below, savers are encouraged to shop about for a higher rate of interest.

Making sure that their home is properly insulated could also be important to drive down outgoing costs, as Which? found earlier this month that the average energy bill for a badly insulated home could increase up to a third by the year 2020.
