Managing finances 'a new year's resolution'

Planning finances more effectively is a new year's resolution for many, according to Gocompare.com.

Of the people questioned by the firm, 37 per cent said that they are planning to sort out their money issues in 2010.

However, this is a drop from last year, when 60 per cent of people said they wanted to get their cash in order in 2009.

Lee Griffin, business development director at Gocompare.com: "I doubt very much that everybody has got their finances in order, so resolving to cut outgoings and shop around more are still likely to be good resolutions this year too."

Other popular resultions to get 2010 off to a good start included losing weight, which was a goal for 45 per cent of the people asked, and seeking a new job, which 23 per cent of people said they hope to do.

Some of the respondents may be planning on saving money by spending less on their pets.

An estimated £157 million was spent by pet owners on their animals this Christmas, according to Gocompare.com.
