Post Office reaches 2,000 free ATMs

The Post Office has increased the number of free ATM machines around the UK to 2,000.

Working in conjunction with the Bank of Ireland, the Post Office is now one of the top ten providers of ATM machines in Britain, offering cash for free to customers of any bank.

The latest machine was installed in Thornaby House post office, in Stockton-on-Tees. It joins the extensive network of cash machines the company provides, which make over a million withdrawals every day.

Gary Hockey-Morley, marketing director at the Post Office, said: "We think it's important that people are able to access their cash free of charge, no matter where they live or who they bank with."

In a recent survey, the Post Office found that 71 per cent of adults had planned to stay in on New Year's Eve in a bid to save cash, an increase on 63 per cent who planned to do the same the previous year.
