M&S: Home insurance holders offered energy-efficient goods

Householders who have home insurance with Marks and Spencer (M&S) are being offered environmentally-friendly alternatives when they make a claim.

In an attempt to help customers to reduce their impact on the environment, M&S is offering them two options should the worst happen.

Consumers who have large appliances, such as dishwashers or freezers, which have been damaged beyond repair, can have a replacement which is rated A for energy-efficiency.

These appliances can help homeowners to reduce their carbon footprint by as much as 140 kg a year.

For equipment that can be repaired, sustainable materials will be used, in line with the Code for Sustainable Homes 4.

David Wells, M&S head of insurance, said: "Feedback from householders has told us that they want an insurance policy which helps reduce the environmental impact of their home in the event of a claim."

M&S recently reminded consumers to keep their property secure during the winter, as the number of burglaries are at its highest between November and January.
