Consumers 'can save by switching'

Switching providers for a range of household services can save consumers money this year, according to Gocompare.com.

Up to 37 per cent of British adults are concerned about the rising costs of living this year, but many are still not shopping around to find cheaper payment options.

In the past year, 41 per cent of consumers have not switched deals on any of their insurance or service providers, which could be costing them greatly.

Just 10.6 per cent of credit card users have moved to a different deal in the last year, while only 14.4 per cent of broadband users have opted for a new plan, despite competition between the companies meaning better offers are increasingly available.

Lee Griffin, business development director of Gocompare.com, said: "Whilst lots of people have become committed comparers and switchers, our research shows that millions of consumers could still be paying more than they should for things like insurance and energy."

In related news, 37 per cent of people questioned told Gocompare.com that they plan to sort out their finances this year, compared to 60 per cent who stated they would do the same in 2009.
