Reviewing finances 'can save £4,000 in 2010'

Making a review of their finances can save consumers up to £4,000 during this year, according to moneysupermarket.com.

By making simple changes to the deals that consumers use can save themselves thousands of pounds this year, without having to make any alterations to their lifestyles.

For example, switching to a zero rate credit card can bring in real savings for someone with a good credit history. With a debt of £2,000, moving cards could mean a saving of up to £313.

Moving to an online dual fuel bill paid through direct debit is the easiest way to make big savings on utilities costs, with an average of £325 to be made before 2011.

Clare Francis, site editor at price comparison site moneysupermarket.com, said: "People should review their finances on a regular basis and the turn of year is a great trigger to do just that."

In December, the experts at moneysupermarket.com predicted that credit card users will find it difficult to get the best deals unless they have good credit histories. It is also expected that utility bills are unlikely to get any cheaper.
