Santander rebranding begins

The rebranding of Abbey and Bradford & Bingley has begun, as the first official Santander branch is now open in London.

By the end of January, all of the branches belonging to the two institutions will be rebranded under one name.

It is good news for customers with Bradford & Bingley and Abbey, as the Santander Zero Current Account is now available to anyone who currently holds or is about to take out a mortgage with the institution.

Account holders receive no charges or fees on the account, even if they go over their overdraft limit. In addition, any Santander customers can use one of the bank's cash machines in Spain free of charge, which includes foreign exchange fees.

Customers with Alliance & Leicester and Abbey can also now apply for a fixed-rate bond which pays up to 4.1 per cent on their investment.

Emilio Botin, chairman of Banco Santander, said: "Over the last five years we have transformed our UK business into one of the most successful banks in the country."
